SUMMARY Isaac Newton was an English physicist and mathematician of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries (he was born on January 4, 1643 and died on March 31, 1727 at age 84) known mainly for: – Laying the foundations of classical mechanics through his three laws of motion and his law of universal gravitation. Isaac Newton published his masterpiece Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica in 1687. It set out his theory of gravity and his laws of motion. In 1695 Isaac Newton was made Ward of the mint and in 1699 Master of the mint. He resigned his fellowship and professorship at Cambridge in 1701. In 1703 Isaac Newton became president of the Royal. Isaac Newton. Isaac Newton was one of the greatest scientists of all time. He is best known for his discovery of the law of universal gravitation and the laws of motion. Much of modern science is based on the understanding and use of his laws. Isaac Newton was born on Christmas Day, 1642, in the small English town of Woolsthorpe. Newton claimed that Grimaldi’s diffraction was simply a new kind of refraction. The English natural philosopher Isaac Newton bought his first prism in 1666, one year after Francesco Grimaldi’s work on diffraction was published. Isaac Newton is famous for his discovery of gravity and his description of the three laws of motion, however, this English scientist and mathematician did even more to advance science and math. Isaac Newton was not very keen on school work and preferred reading and making things.
Newton was the first person to build a reflecting telescope, which made the images seen through a telescope much clearer. Newton was the first scientist to be buried at Westminster Abbey.
